# How to Split Device Data

Device data can be **split** for a tracking device if the device is moved from one vehicle to another. After the data split, the data from the old vehicle remains in the Paikannin.com as [historical data](https://support.gsfleet.io/knowledgebase/terminology?hsLang=en), allowing the same tracking device to be installed in another vehicle. From the moment of the split onwards, no further data accumulates for the old vehicle. The following information must be provided for the device when performing the data split:

- New name (usually registration number of the new vehicle)
- Transition time 
    - Point in time when the tracking device was removed from the old vehicle
- Device privileges 
    - Keep on the old device (device rights do not transfer to the new device)
    - Move to a new device (device rights are copied to the new device)
- Device groups 
    - Keep on the old device (device rights do not transfer to the new device)
    - Move to a new device (device rights are copied to the new device)
- Reports 
    - Keep on the old device (device rights do not transfer to the new device)
    - Move to a new device (device rights are copied to the new device)

 

Please note that when sharing device data, the user must be aware of the impact of such sharing on the device fleet

If the tracking device is removed entirely, device data should not be shared; instead, please notify supportfinland@gsfleet.io so that the appropriate actions can be taken regarding the device.
